What a day! As you can see from the photo below, we were able to take in many of Madrid's sites during the madrugada, (the wee hours of the morning). Here we are outside the Royal Palace, posing with the great leaders of days past.
We toured the historic part of town during the day, too, but even the misty umbrellas in Plaza Meyor were hard pressed to keep us cool. A siesta in one of the many city parks is a better plan, giving us enough energy to enjoy Madrid's old world charm at night.
We saw lots of signs, especially on churches, heralding the coming of WYD. Everyone knows of it and the mood is positive. It's like the calm before the storm...
Most of our grupo is together now, so we made our way out to a nearby restaurant for tapas and mojotos. There won't be any drinking during WYD, so we decided to try one of Spain's famous copas while we were free to do so. Salude!
